8. Spelling Mode

8.1 What Spelling Mode Is

Spelling Mode is used when you need to build a word one letter at a time. It’s perfect for names, email addresses, passwords, and any word dictation keeps getting wrong. Each letter you say appears in the Word Box as you go.

This mode is especially useful because once you spell a word correctly, you can save it to your grammar so you don’t have to spell it again later.

Saving a word can be especially effective for unusual or unique-sounding words. However, recognition is often even better when you save a short phrase of two or three words instead of only one word. For example, your full name is usually more reliable than saving just your last name.

This is where “Remember Wordbox” comes in. Build the word or phrase in the Word Box, then say “Remember Wordbox” to add it to your grammar for faster, easier use later.

8.2 Enter Spelling Mode and Spell Letters

Enter Spelling Mode

Spelling Mode is accessed from Post Mode. Start in Post Mode first, then say:
“Access Spell”

You can also enter Spelling Mode automatically just by using a spelling command while you are in Post Mode. For example, saying “The letter d” or “Capital B” will kick you into Spelling Mode and place that letter into the Word Box.

Spell letters

For capital letters, say “Capital” plus the letter.
Example: “Capital B”

For lowercase letters, say the letter using the clearer phrasing:
Example: “The letter d”

Quick trick if a letter is hard to get

If a letter isn’t being recognized clearly, you can say a word that starts with it. For example, say “cookie” to help get a lowercase c, or “Denmark” to help get an uppercase D.

8.3 Fix Mistakes, Save Words, and Send Text

Fix mistakes

If you make a mistake or the program mishears you, say:
“Delete”

Save the word so you don’t have to spell it again

When the word in the Word Box is correct, you can add it to your grammar by saying:
“Remember Wordbox”

Hear the letters spoken out loud

If you want your letters read back to you, say:
“Access Letters”

Move and send the word

To move the Word Box word down into the Paste Box, say:
“Okay”

To post the word to wherever your cursor is blinking in another program, say:
“Post”

8.4 Remember Wordbox – Save Words To Grammar

To permanently improve recognition for a word or short phrase, spell it correctly in the Word Box and then say:
“Remember Wordbox”

The program will add that exact word or phrase to your grammar. This is especially useful for:

  • Unusual names or technical terms
  • Words the system often mishears
  • Short phrases (2–3 words) that you use frequently

In many cases, saving a short phrase (for example, your full name) gives more reliable recognition than saving only a single word (such as just your last name).

8.5 Exit, and Note To Teachers

Exit Spelling Mode

To leave spelling mode, say:
“Exit Spelling”

Note to Teachers

When demonstrating commands out loud next to a student, try saying the command inside a short sentence. This reduces accidental activations when the program hears the teacher speaking.
